"It has touched me deeply to see so many thousands of families, neighbours and friends celebrating together in such a happy atmosphere." ~ Queen Elizabeth II

60 years is a long time to wear a crown and represent...
with poise and tasteful restraint...
but that is exactly what Queen Elizabeth II has accomplished and gives new meaning to the phrase...
"keep calm and carry on".

Ren Man and I celebrated the Diamond Jubilee in the quaint town of

Grasmere in the Lake District of England where...
visible signs honor the milestones of her reign.

Events stretched throughout the long weekend and we were drawn into the pride and jubilation.

While strolling through Wordworth's Daffodil garden adjacent to the cemetery where he is buried...
we heard the bells of the nearby church...
ring a familiar tune...
one that I was able to name in three notes...
(remember that show from years ago...Name That Tune?)
but wait...
why was this church in the beautiful English countryside playing an American patriotic song?
Then it occurred to my ignorant self...
we totally changed the words to the British national anthem,
"God Save the Queen"!
Church the next morning ended with the packed pews, accompanied by the exhuberant organ, singing the first two verses of the anthem.
Quite.an.experience.

Nearby Keswick was one of the 4,200 beacon's of light placed on  hilltop vantage points and highest mountains throughout the United Kingdom.
With picnic blanket in hand we picked the perfect spot to enjoy the B&B&B.
The bonfire, sponsored by the National Trust, burned brightly as the boyscouts provided the BBQ...
 and we watched the sunset...
before the beacon was lit at 10:00 p.m., followed by the Queen
lighting the final beacon in London.

A memorable jubilee celebrating 60 years of service to her country.

There is a very short list of people who can say that!

Have a wonderful Wednesday!
